Get Rugged Capability in a Honda Truck or SUV

Honda builds their SUV and truck models to a standard of rugged capability that may be a surprise to some Blue Ash and St. Bernard drivers. Whether you face a snowy commute or a rugged trail to the campsite, our staff at Superior Honda thought you might like to know more about the off-road features offered by Honda.

The Vehicles

Ridgeline Truck

The Honda Ridgeline is a pickup truck. It comes with a 280-horsepower, V6 engine for plenty of power and impressive fuel economy. The transmission is a nine-speed automatic. AWD versions tow up to 5,000 pounds while the 2WD models can handle up to 3,500 pounds. The i-VTM4 AWD system is available. Other notable features include the following.

  • Intelligent Traction Management
  • Fully independent front and rear suspension for better handling and a smoother ride.
  • Dual-action tailgate that opens down or to the side.
  • Unibody construction for rigidity and a quiet ride.

Pilot SUV

The Honda Pilot is a large SUV that seats up to eight. It shares many of its capabilities with the Honda Ridgeline, including the engine, transmission, AWD system and towing capacity. You'll also find the following features.

  • Intelligent Traction Management.
  • Hands-free power tailgate.
  • Maximum 109 cubic feet of cargo space.
  • ACE body structure for better protection of occupants.

Passport SUV

The Honda Passport is a smaller, five-seat SUV with sport styling. It doesn't sacrifice performance, though, with the same engine, AWD system and towing capacity of its bigger sibling. A fully independent suspension makes this athletic SUV even more maneuverable whether you're in Cincinnati, OH traffic or dodging rocks on the trail. Other features include the following.

  • Hands-free power tailgate.
  • Maximum 100 cubic feet of cargo space.
  • Power moonroof.
  • Tri-zone climate control.

The Honda CR-V is the smallest Honda SUV. It seats five, and a hybrid model is available. A 190-horsepower turbocharged engine powers the Honda CR-V, and you can pair it with Real Time AWD. Look for the following features in the Honda CR-V.

  • Hands-free power tailgate.
  • Maximum 75.8 cubic feet of cargo space.
  • Dual-zone climate control.
  • Heated, power front seats.

All-Wheel Drive

Honda builds two types of AWD.

Real Time AWD operates electronically to react to road conditions and send power to the rear wheels. This helps prevent loss of traction on hills and slick road surfaces.

Intelligent Variable Torque Management, or i-VTM4, adds torque vectoring to the AWD system. What this means is that there are twin clutches that can grab separately on each rear wheel. When one rear wheel starts slipping, the torque on each wheel can be adjusted to help the vehicle find traction again.

Intelligent Traction Management

This system lets you adjust for the terrain with the push of a button. Normal mode is the default. Two-wheel drive trims can choose Snow mode for a no-slip start in second gear. Trims with AWD also have Mud mode to keep your momentum and Sand mode for a quicker throttle and greater wheel torque.

Each of the modes incorporates Vehicle Stability Assist. This is a system that selectively regulates braking and engine output when it detects a loss of control during cornering or on slippery roads. It helps stabilize the vehicle so you can get your wheels back under you.

Towing Capacity

Properly equipped, a Honda truck or SUV can tow up to 5,000 pounds. "Properly equipped" means the vehicle has the V6 engine and i-VTM4 AWD. This is enough capacity to pull a 22-foot boat or 24-foot camper, so if your plans include hitting the road with all your toys, this is the configuration you want.

When you want rugged capability from a truck or SUV, stop by Superior Honda and test drive a Honda. Our trucks and SUVs look good, work hard and handle the road.
