2020 Honda CR-V Hybrid: Green and Powerful

Honda is bulking up its CR-V lineup this year with the addition of a hybrid variant. The CR-V Hybrid has a two-motor hybrid system similar to the one in the Accord hybrid, which is combined with a 2.0-liter, 212-hp engine. It gets an EPA-estimated 38 mpg combined. All-wheel drive is standard on the hybrid; the gasoline version comes in either front-wheel or all-wheel drive. Here's a roundup of snippets of CR-V Hybrid reviews from the automotive media.

"From a standing start the Hybrid feels like it bogs down for a moment, not exactly showing off the torque potential of electric motors - and possibly a downside of the mechanical AWD system. Floor the accelerator at 5 mph and it's a different thing, however - the CR-V quietly lunges forward with an urge passengers just wouldn't expect here. From there, a second or so in, the engine comes awake to keep electrons flowing to the motor, and the acceleration feels impressively urgent until about 40 mph, where the advantage fades. From 40 to 70 mph or so, we'd be hard-pressed to call a winner between the hybrid and the standard version.

"Honda also claims the CR-V Hybrid spends more time in EV operation versus the RAV4 Hybrid, but after a back-to-back drive with the Toyota we'd say that's at a very specific (and very low) speed. Additionally, while real-world mileage might be better for the CR-V Hybrid on city streets versus the RAV4 Hybrid, it's likely not on country roads, where the CR-V Hybrid's engine sometimes races to keep up with the demand of the terrain and sudden fast straightaways or passes."

2019 Honda Insight Named Green Car of the Year by Green Car Journal

Nov 29, 2018 - TORRANCE, Calif.

The 2019 Honda Insight has been named the 2019 Green Car of the Year by Green Car Journal, the fourth time Honda has won the award. The all-new, made-in-Indiana Insight was recognized for its fuel economy, which doesn't come at the expense of style or performance.

"Today's driver wants more from a hybrid than just great fuel economy. Insight truly represents the direction Honda is pursuing with electrified vehicles, delivering style and sophisticated driving dynamics with outstanding fuel economy," said Ray Mikiciuk, assistant vice president of Honda Auto Sales. "We appreciate Green Car Journal for recognizing Honda for the fourth time with Green Car of the Year for the 2019 Honda Insight."

The 2019 Insight is the fourth Honda to win Green Car of the Year, joining prior winners the 2012 Civic Natural Gas, the 2014 Accord, and last year's winner, the 2018 Clarity series of advanced powertrain vehicles: the Clarity Plug-In Hybrid, Clarity Electric and Clarity Fuel Cell.
